Our story

A Homeschooling Journey

Interviewed by Apple Daily (蘋果日報) in 2019, our family shared the story of homeschooling my two children, Lakiesha and Lathan, after they struggled under the pressure of mainstream schooling in Hong Kong.

When my eldest daughter started school, the honeymoon period lasted barely a term before homework began taking hours every night and she started showing signs of emotional distress. We made the decision to homeschool — not to escape "school," but to give her space to rediscover why learning could feel good.

That experience — of deschooling, of trusting a child's own pace, of believing confidence has to come before performance — is the foundation of everything I now teach.

In her own words

"Many good teachers want to nurture children, but most have to hit a target or a grade by a certain time... comparing children too much affects more than their report card — if life revolves only around results and study, is that really a whole-person education?"
